The police have been asked to set up new posts in Districts 1, 3, and 5 after a letter from city leaders said that tourism security “has not improved” at all this year, Tuoi Tre reported.

Reports from the city’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism showed a lack of progress in curbing robberies, taxi scams and other cons targeting foreign visitors.

District 1 authorities launched a pilot program in June which assigns youth volunteers to assist foreign visitors at common tourist destinations, providing destination information and assisting them when they need to deal with police upon safety issues.

In May, two employees of a taxi company unauthorized to exchange money managed to cheat dozens of French tourists who sought the service at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in the city.
