Nha Trang greets cruise ships

Four cruise ships brought around 4,800 passengers and crew members to Nha Trang on Wednesday morning.

The visitors took a city tour by xich lo (pedicabs) and visited villages close to the city.

All four vessels – Legend of the Seas (Bahamas-flagged), Orion II (Malta), Silver Shadow (Bahamas), and Amsterdam (the Netherlands) left the same evening.

International percussion festival to bring the beat to Hue in April

An international percussion festival to be held in Hue City will gather instruments from different regions of the world and honour the “magnanimous sound of Vietnamese drums,” says organiser and theatre director Le Quy Duong.

The festival, the first of its kind in the area, will be held from April 10-14 as part of the 2012 Hue Festival.

As part of the festival, entitled Resounding Viet Nam’s Spirit, organisers expect to donate 100 drums to 50 schools in each of Thua Thien Hue and Ben Tre provinces.

Hue Festival 2012 has the theme Cultural Heritage with Integration and Development – Rendezvous of Historic Cities. It will take place from April 7-15. As many as 23 art troupes will attend the festival, coming from France, Denmark, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Israel, India, Mexico, the US, the UK, the Philippines, Russia,and South Africa.

British spelunkers find new caves at Phong Nha-Ke Bang park

A group of explorers from the British Royal Cave Association discovered seven caves at the Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park in central Quang Binh Province.

Dr Howard Limbert, head of the exploration group said the discovery was the result of a one-week exploration.

The explores gave names to a few of the new discoveries, including Con Chay Cave, Gio Cave, Hai Cua Cave and Ky Cave.

Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park is called the “kingdom of caves”. Since 1920, this area has been known for its famous cave system. Phong Nha cave has been known as a tourist destination since 1937. Recently, the cave system has been explored and measured in detail by the British association and the Natural Science College of the Ha Noi National University.

New highway rest area opens

The HCM City-based Trung Thuy JSC has opened its third rest area for tourists on Highway No 51 in Tam Phuoc Commune in Dong Nai Province’s Long Thanh District.

The 7,000 sq.m facility has restaurants and handicraft and souvenir shops, and follows others the company has in Tien Giang Province and Da Nang.

The highway runs up to Vung Tau.
